What is Microneedling and how does it benefit my skin?
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy and has been practiced for more than 20 years. Over the last 20 years Microneedling has evolved with updated equipment and techniques. Simply put, Microneedling is the process of creating controlled micro-injuries or punctures to the upper layers of the skin with small needles. Don’t worry, a topical cream is applied for numbing to make the treatment relaxing and comfortable. The procedure stimulates the body's natural reaction to heal by creating new collagen to repair the damage. Multiple sessions can be required depending on the skin concern. These concerns can range from: acne scarring, wrinkles, and stretch marks. A single treatment can take about 30 minutes. Microneedling helps with acne scarring, skin texture and tone and fine lines and wrinkles.
Benefits of Microneedling?
The main benefit of puncturing the skin is to increase collagen production. Why is this important? Well, as we age (particularly, starting at the age of 20) our collagen levels start to naturally decline. The slow progression of decreased collagen production means visible fine lines and wrinkles. Microneedling helps to combat visible signs of aging, as well as acne scars by plumping and thickening the skin.
